Global Education Officer - maternity cover  {22 May 2013} shimAdd Job112 to Scrapbook

Organisation: Cumbria Development Education Centre

Salary: NJC scale 26-29 £22,221 - £24,646 pro rata

The main purpose of this post is to deliver the final year of the EU funded ‘Global Literacy for a Fairer World’ project. The project aims to engage key stage 2 teachers in learning about development issues, in order to build their confidence and ability to incorporate global learning, particularly around poverty, hunger and interconnectedness, into their lessons (with links to literacy, geography, citizenship and Philosophy for Children). CDEC has been working with a small group of teachers in Cumbria schools to develop and trial a set of materials, lesson plans and activities which engage children in high quality, inspiring global learning. A draft of these materials is available at http://issuu.com/katiecdec/docs/glchallengepack.

The final year of the project is built around the theme ‘Pupils Take Action’. The post-holder will deliver half day or twilight training sessions to schools, to introduce them to the project, and familiarise them with the Global Literacy Challenge and Enquiry Pack. The emphasis for teachers will be to use the materials to enable children to increase their understanding of global issues, and to develop a sense of ‘self-efficacy’, to understand that they can take action towards a fairer world. As well as delivering training, the post-holder will give ongoing support to schools (face-to-face and via email and telephone) to enable children to take part in a ‘Pupils Take Action’ competition, where they will be invited to present creative outputs (such as artwork, drama, film, sculpture etc) which illustrate their own ideas and projects for making
the world fairer.

The post holder will also be required to contribute to the development and delivery of CDEC’s CPD programme, and take a full role in other team commitments.
This is an opportunity for an imaginative and enthusiastic educator to join CDEC’s team of global learning experts. The successful applicant will have experience of delivering training and development activities for primary school teachers, and an understanding of the global dimension in education. She/he will be passionate about development education and social justice.
